Altano celebrates 25 years with a new image for its Reserva wines
26/12/2025Altano marks its 25th anniversary with the pre-launch of the new visual identity for its Reserva wines and presents the new 2023 White and 2022 Red vintages, in a celebration that reaffirms the brand's connection to the Douro, innovation and authenticity. In the year it celebrates its quarter-century anniversary, Altano — the first DOC Douro wine created by Symington Family Estates — unveils the new image of its Altano Reserva White and Altano Reserva Red wines, in a rebranding that highlights the brand’s deep connection with the region and the year of its foundation, 1999. The new bottle shape and revamped design celebrate not only Altano’s evolution, but also the values that define it: territory, innovation and authenticity.
The iconic Scops Owl, the brand’s symbol, now takes on a central and more expressive role on the labels. Depicted in full flight, the owl is no longer just an emblem but becomes a living, dynamic and artistic element, created using watercolour techniques, which add fluidity, elegance and depth to the whole.
To mark the date, Altano is pre-launching the new Altano Reserva Branco 2023 and Altano Reserva Tinto 2022, two wines that reflect the modern and elegant style of the Douro. The Branco 2023 stands out for its complexity, unctuous texture and remarkable elegance, combining the freshness of the region with the structure imparted by the barrel, while also revealing ageing potential. The Tinto 2022 expresses the more intense and traditional side of the Douro with a dense, concentrated and structured profile, ideal for ageing in the bottle and accompanying more complex dishes.
Cláudia Monteiro, Brand Manager at Symington Family Estates, emphasises the importance of this moment: “Altano’s 25th anniversary represents a very special milestone for us. This was our first DOC Douro wine and marks the beginning of a new phase in our relationship with this extraordinary region. As we celebrate this new chapter, we reaffirm our commitment to authenticity, sustainability and quality — principles that continue to inspire and guide everything we do.”
The new identity was unveiled at an exclusive dinner at DAM Lisboa, hosted by chef Maurício Varela. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, the Symington family also invited artist Jorge Colombo, internationally renowned for his illustrations for The New Yorker, to create an original work inspired by the Douro and the spirit of Altano. The piece reinforces the connection between art, territory and storytelling that the brand seeks to honour.
With this celebration, Altano pays tribute to the Symington family’s history of more than 140 years linked to Port Wine and the Douro. Today, Altano is more than just a wine brand: it is a symbol of the contemporary Douro — sustainable, accessible and continually inspiring, faithful to its roots but open to evolution.
