Cockburn’s Celebrates São João with Traditional Festivities at its Gaia Cellars

Cockburn’s is once again celebrating São João with another edition of its traditional festival at its historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, inviting visitors and lovers of this popular celebration to enjoy one of the city’s most iconic nights with privileged views over the River Douro.

This year, the event introduces a new feature: the gates will open earlier to allow guests to watch Portugal’s live match against Uzbekistan in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game will be broadcast on a large screen installed within the venue, enabling visitors to combine the festive atmosphere of São João with the excitement of football.

The programme also includes a gastronomic offering developed in partnership with Belos Aires Restaurante – Cocina Argentina, led by chef Mauricio Ghiglione. The menu pays tribute to the traditional flavours of São João, featuring dishes inspired by local festivities as well as vegetarian options.

Cockburn’s Port Wines will take centre stage throughout the evening, served both traditionally and in cocktails, alongside Altano DOC Douro wines. Music and entertainment will continue into the night, creating the relaxed and lively atmosphere that characterises Portugal’s Popular Saints celebrations, with plenty of opportunities for socialising, dancing and festivities.

Overlooking the Douro and enjoying a prime location close to Gaia’s historic centre, the Cockburn’s São João Festival has established itself as an attractive option for those seeking a more exclusive way to experience the celebrations, while remaining connected to the traditions that make this occasion one of the most important dates in the Portuguese festive calendar.
