Pombal do Vesúvio 2022, produced by the Symington family at the historic Quinta do Vesúvio, has been selected as “Wine of the Week” by JancisRobinson.com, one of the most respected international sources of wine criticism and information.
The recommendation was written by Samantha Cole-Johnson, contributor to the platform founded by Master of Wine Jancis Robinson, who praised the wine’s distinctive personality and its ability to surprise even the most experienced enthusiasts of Douro wines.
Produced from grapes grown at Quinta do Vesúvio, in the Douro Superior, Pombal do Vesúvio 2022 offers an elegant and contemporary interpretation of the region. In the review published by the international platform, particular emphasis was placed on the wine’s floral and herbal aromas, freshness, refined texture and overall balance — characteristics that set it apart from the more traditional profiles often associated with Douro red wines.
First launched in 2007, Pombal do Vesúvio represents one of the most modern expressions of Quinta do Vesúvio, one of the Douro’s most iconic estates, whose origins date back to 1823. Located on the slopes of the Douro Superior, the estate is renowned for producing some of the region’s most prestigious wines.
The 2022 vintage is predominantly made from Touriga Nacional, complemented by Touriga Franca and Tinta Amarela, grape varieties that contribute to the wine’s aromatic profile, elegance and ageing potential.
This distinction comes at a time when Portuguese wines continue to strengthen their international reputation among leading wine critics, further enhancing the standing of the Douro as one of the world’s most important wine-producing regions.
Pombal do Vesúvio 2022 is available through specialised wine retailers and selected restaurants.
