Quinta de Dona Maria: A Baroque and Winemaking Treasure in Estremoz

25/07/2025In the heart of Estremoz, Quinta de Dona Maria is a historical and cultural landmark that combines the beauty of 18th century Baroque architecture with excellence in wine production.

Known for its connection to King João V and the courtesan D. Maria, the Quinta invites visitors to a unique experience that combines history, tradition and the authentic flavours of the Alentejo.
This palatial house, with interiors rich in tiles and marble typical of the region, also has a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Carmo, which gives it the alternative name of Quinta do Carmo. The Quinta’s winery opens its doors to tourists and wine lovers, offering guided tours that include the chapel, the gardens, the Sala das Talhas and the marble lagares where the traditional treading of the grapes is still practised.
Wine tastings, accompanied by bread and regional cheeses, can be enriched with lunch or dinner in the Palace, served with lace tablecloths, antique crockery and silver cutlery, in an atmosphere that transports visitors to another era. The experience is completed by the presence of the owner, making each visit unforgettable and a real journey through time and flavour.
