Quinta de Lemos Celebrates 20 Years with Tribute to Dona Georgina 2005 Wine
29/12/2025Quinta de Lemos marks 20 years since its first harvest by celebrating the Dona Georgina 2005 wine, a Dão icon that signaled the project's beginning and pays homage to the woman who inspired the Lemos family's philosophy of work, authenticity, and excellence.Quinta de Lemos has celebrated two decades since its first vintage in 2005, a milestone marking the start of a project that helped establish the Dão region on the map of Portugal’s great wines. At the heart of this celebration is the Dona Georgina 2005, an emblematic wine of the estate, inspired by Celso de Lemos’s mother and recognized, since its launch, as an award-winning benchmark wine.
Founded from the vision of Celso de Lemos, Quinta de Lemos was born from the desire to produce wines that authentically reflect the Dão terroir, combining tradition, rigor, and an approach to excellence the entrepreneur had already consolidated in other sectors. The 2005 harvest marked the beginning of that ambition and remains, 20 years later, a symbol of the estate’s identity.
The Dona Georgina 2005 pays tribute to Georgina Esteves, Celso de Lemos’s mother, a woman whose life of work, courage, and generosity marked several generations of the family. Born in 1911, in Poives, Viseu, Dona Georgina distinguished herself early on as a seamstress, raising seven children with effort and dedication. Her small workshop grew over the years, also becoming a workspace for other women from the region. The values she imparted—honesty, perseverance, and a sense of sharing—remain present today in Quinta de Lemos’s philosophy and in every wine that bears her name.
These same values accompanied Celso de Lemos throughout his professional journey, including years spent abroad and his return to Portugal, where he founded Abyss & Habidecor and, later, brought the wine project in Dão to life. Since the 1990s, Quinta de Lemos has distinguished itself by exclusively focusing on native grape varieties of the region, such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, and Alfrocheiro, worked in limited productions with rigorous selection criteria, resulting in a small annual output focused on quality.
The Dona Georgina 2005, a blend of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, aged in French oak, continues to reveal, two decades later, the elegance and freshness characteristic of the Dão’s granitic soils, remaining a reference wine for the estate.
Currently under the management of Pierre de Lemos, Quinta de Lemos remains faithful to the original vision, establishing itself as a family project of excellence. The Dona Georgina wine is available in the Horeca channel, as well as in Quinta de Lemos’s wine tourism experiences and at Mesa de Lemos, the estate’s restaurant.
In the field of wine tourism, Quinta de Lemos offers vineyard and winery tours, as well as wine tastings, allowing visitors to get to know the terroir, philosophy, and history that underpin the project firsthand. Mesa de Lemos, integrated into the estate, complements the experience with a gastronomic proposal focused on national products and the appreciation of contemporary Portuguese cuisine.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Quinta de Lemos and the Dona Georgina 2005, the estate is also preparing commemorative initiatives, including special editions and events dedicated to this double anniversary, reinforcing its role as an ambassador for the identity and excellence of the Dão region.
