Quinta do Quetzal restaurant distinguished with a recommendation in the Michelin Guide.

22/04/2026The restaurant led by chef João Mourato has been included in the list of recommended restaurants in the Michelin Guide Portugal 2026, reinforcing the appreciation for contemporary Alentejo cuisine.

The Quinta do Quetzal restaurant, located in Vidigueira, in the heart of the Alentejo region, has been distinguished as a Recommended Restaurant by the Michelin Guide, an award announced during the MICHELIN Guide Portugal 2026 Gala, held in Funchal.
The distinction recognizes the work developed by chef João Mourato and his team, who have been establishing a contemporary gastronomic proposal deeply connected to the Alentejo territory.

As part of a project that combines wine, contemporary art and gastronomy, the Quinta do Quetzal restaurant presents itself as a natural extension of the property located on the slopes of the Serra do Mendro. In this space, the landscape, wine production and artistic expression meet in a distinctive wine tourism and gastronomic experience.

In the kitchen, chef João Mourato draws inspiration from the culinary tradition of the Alentejo to create a current and sensory approach, reinterpreting recipes and flavors of the region with contemporary techniques and a strong emphasis on local and seasonal products from producers in the region.

“This recommendation from the MICHELIN Guide is a very important recognition for the entire team and a source of pride for all of us. Our goal now is to continue valuing the Alentejo region, its products and traditions, reinterpreting them with creativity and respect for the territory, continuing to provide excellent gastronomic experiences for those who visit Quinta do Quetzal,” says João Mourato, chef of the restaurant.

The dishes are designed in dialogue with the wines of Quinta do Quetzal, creating pairings that reinforce the connection between gastronomy and territory and invite an immersive experience centered on the Alentejo.

For Reto Jörg, administrator of Quinta do Quetzal, this distinction reinforces the vision of the project: “Quinta do Quetzal was born from the desire to create a space where wine, art and gastronomy dialogue with each other. Seeing the restaurant recognized by the MICHELIN Guide is a great satisfaction and confirms the path we have been building with the entire team.”

Founded by the Bruin family, Quinta do Quetzal is a wine tourism project that brings together vineyards, a winery, a contemporary art center, and a restaurant, establishing itself as a space where tradition, creativity, and landscape meet in a contemporary proposal that values the identity of the Alentejo region.

With this recommendation, the restaurant reinforces its presence in the national gastronomic scene and consolidates Quinta do Quetzal’s trajectory as a benchmark destination for gastronomy, wine, and cultural experiences.
