Symington is the only Portuguese producer featured in Wine Spectator’s TOP 100 for 2025
17/12/2025Altano DOC Douro Red 2022 and Graham’s 20-Year-Old Port once again put Portugal and the Douro region in the international spotlight, as they join Wine Spectator’s prestigious ranking of the World’s Top 100 Wines — a distinction awarded exclusively to Symington Family Estates among Portuguese producers.Symington Family Estates has once again put Portugal on the global wine map by securing two places in the coveted annual list of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the World, one of the most influential international publications in the sector. In the 2025 edition, only two Portuguese wines earned a place in the ranking – both from Symington – reinforcing global recognition of the quality of Douro wines.
Altano DOC Douro Red 2022 achieved 48th place, while Graham’s 20-Year-Old Port was awarded 57th place in a highly competitive field. For this selection, the American magazine’s senior panel evaluated around 10,200 wines in a blind tasting, of which only those with 90 points or more could be considered for the final list.
“It is with great pride that we receive this double distinction from Wine Spectator. Being the Portuguese representatives in this year’s TOP 100 is a milestone that reveals the recognition of the continuous work of our teams in the Douro, as well as the quality and authenticity of the wines we produce,” says Charlotte Symington, underlining the family’s commitment to raising Portugal and the Douro to the highest international levels.
With a presence in the sector dating back to 1882, Symington Family Estates is today one of the most important producers of Port Wine and Douro wines, managing 28 estates and the largest area of organic vineyards in the north of the country. The family business brings together four historic Port wine houses — Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s and Warre’s — as well as renowned brands such as Altano, Quinta do Vesúvio, Quinta do Ataíde and the Prats & Symington project, responsible for the iconic Chryseia. More recently, it expanded into the Alentejo region with Quinta da Fonte Souto.
Internationally recognised for sustainability, innovation and social responsibility, Symington was the first wine company in Portugal to obtain B Corp certification, reinforcing its leading role in the sector. Wine Spectator’s new distinction reaffirms this position and once again highlights the Douro as one of the most vibrant and prestigious regions in the world of wine.
